Petri Dish Challenge โ€‹

Petri Dish Challenge is where participants step into the shoes of microbiologists to uncover the identity of unknown bacteria through hands-on experiments. Equipped with essential lab tools, cultures, and reagents, teams will perform diagnostic tests to analyze morphological, biochemical, and staining characteristics. The event blends scientific reasoning, laboratory precision, and deductive problem-solving, offering an immersive experience into the fascinating world of microbiology.

Registration Process โ€‹

  • Teams must register on the official Saturnalia registration platform before the deadline mentioned on the platform.
  • Participants can register individually or in teams (2โ€“3 members).

Rules & Regulations โ€‹

  • All required materials (cultures, reagents, glassware, and equipment) will be provided by the organizers.
  • External chemicals, instruments, or personal samples are strictly prohibited.
  • Teams will be given a fixed duration to conduct their experiments and submit their findings.
  • Each team must submit:
    • A laboratory record sheet detailing tests performed and observations.
    • A final report with their identified bacteria.
  • Safety protocols must be followed at all times (gloves, lab coats, goggles compulsory).
  • Spillage, contamination, or mishandling of samples/equipment may result in penalty.
  • Teams must submit their final identification before the time limit; late submissions will not be accepted.

Submissions will be evaluated by the jury on the following parameters:

  • Accuracy of Identification
  • Experimental Approach
  • Observation & Analysis
  • Innovation & Reasoning

Terms & Conditions โ€‹

  • By entering this competition, you agree to be bound by the rules mentioned above. The results given by the judges will be final and only the Thapar Institute Of Engineering and Technology reserves the right to make changes to the result if needed, under extreme circumstances, and disqualify any entry at any time in the event, it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these rules or has acted in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
  • TIET reserves the right to disqualify any team promoting obscenity through their act.
  • TIET reserves the right to cancel the competition in case of unforeseen circumstances.
  • TIET reserves the right to change the prize money before the commencement of the final round.
  • In the case of any dispute, the organizerโ€™s decision will be final and binding.
  • The organizers are not responsible for the non-completion / non-occurrence of the event.
  • The organizers have all the right to cancel, reschedule, postpone, and amend the show.
  • Any equipment provided by TIET or any of its associates must not be damaged in any way. If damaged, must be compensated for by the liable participant/team.
  • In any dispute, the organizerโ€™s decisions are final and binding on the applicant.
  • The number of entries determine the deadlines.
  • Property brought by the participant is their own responsibility and not TIET or any of its associate's liability under any circumstances.
  • The decisions of the Jury/Judges are final.
