Event Description โ
Through The Lens is a college photography competition that challenges students to capture powerful images that tell a story or reflect a specific theme. The competition encourages participants to:
- Explore their creativity
- Experiment with composition
- Convey emotions through their photographs
Photographers will be judged on their ability to evoke emotions, present unique perspectives, and tell stories through their images. Whether you're passionate about photography or simply looking to try something new, this event is a chance to express yourself and make an impact through the art of visual storytelling.

Registration Process โ
- Register on the official Saturnalia registration platform before the deadline (as mentioned on the platform).
- Participation is subject to shortlisting in case of overwhelming response (details will be shared if required).
- Only shortlisted candidates (if applicable) will be notified for further steps.
- Participants must:
- Email the final list (with contact details and college name) to the given POC.
- Fill out required forms and make necessary payments (for non-Thapar students).
- Participation is open exclusively to college students with valid current-year ID cards.
- Registration Fee: โน250 per participant. (โน500 per team of two)
Rules and Regulations โ
Eligibility โ
- Only currently registered college students are eligible. -Each college can have a maximum of three teams representing them, with each team consisting of 1โ2 participants.
- All photographs must be original and captured by the participant. No internet-sourced or manipulated images allowed.
General Rules โ
- All entries must align with the assigned theme; off-theme entries will be disqualified.
- No watermarks, logos, or identifying marks allowed on submissions.
- Image Specifications:
- High-resolution JPEG or PNG format only
- Minor edits (brightness/contrast) allowed; excessive editing or heavy alterations (adding/removing elements) prohibited
- Each participant may submit only one photograph.
- Ethical Considerations:
- Obtain permission from any people featured in photos
- No harmful, dangerous, or inappropriate content
- All entries must be submitted by the deadline; late submissions will not be accepted.
- Plagiarism results in immediate disqualification. Photos must not have been previously submitted elsewhere.
- No college name, logo, or reference (verbal, visual, textual, or otherwise) should appear in the photo.
- Prizes subject to adequate participation; the committee may modify/withdraw prizes if participation is low.
Performance Guidelines โ
Competition Structure โ
- Participants are required to create and submit a photo story consisting of 8โ10 photographs based on the theme or topic provided by the organizers.
- The photographs should collectively narrate a cohesive story or convey a clear message, emotion, or concept. Each image should connect naturally to the others to build a strong visual narrative.
- A short description or caption must accompany each of the photographs, explaining the story, idea, or inspiration behind the series.
- All entries must be original and captured by the participant(s) during the competition period.
- The theme or topic for the photo story will be revealed at the start of the competition. Participants will then have a fixed duration to conceptualize, capture, and submit their entries.
- The final submission must be compiled and uploaded as a single PDF file, containing all 8โ10 photographs arranged in sequence along with the descriptions/captions.
- Each team must ensure that their submission complies with the ethical guidelines mentioned above (no AI, harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content).

- Results will be declared by a panel of judges soon after the competition ends.

Terms and Conditions โ
By entering this competition, you agree to be bound by the rules mentioned above. The results given by the judges will be final and only the Thapar Institute Of Engineering and Technology reserves the right to make changes to the result if needed, under extreme circumstances, and disqualify any entry at any time in the event, it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these rules or has acted in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
- TIET reserves the right to disqualify any team promoting obscenity through their act.
- TIET reserves the right to cancel the competition in case of unforeseen circumstances.
- TIET reserves the right to change the prize money before the commencement of the final round.
- In the case of any dispute, the organizerโs decision will be final and binding.
- The organizers are not responsible for the non-completion / non-occurrence of the event.
- The organizers have all the right to cancel, reschedule, postpone, and amend the show.
- Any equipment provided by TIET or any of its associates must not be damaged in any way. If damaged, must be compensated for by the liable participant/team.
- In any dispute, the organizerโs decisions are final and binding on the applicant.
- The number of entries determine the deadlines.
- Property brought by the participant is their own responsibility and not TIET or any of its associate's liability under any circumstances. The decisions of the Jury/Judges are final.
- TIET may cancel the competition in unforeseen circumstances.
- TIET may change prize money before the final round.
- In case of disputes, organizers' decisions are final and binding.
- Organizers are not responsible for non-completion/non-occurrence of the event.
- Organizers may cancel, reschedule, postpone, or amend the event.
- Any equipment provided by TIET or associates must not be damaged; damages must be compensated by the participant/team.
- Property brought by participants is their own responsibility; TIET/associates are not liable.
- The number of entries determines the deadlines.
- The decisions of the jury/judges are final.
