Event Description

  • Step into the world of cinema with our 50-Hour Film-Making Challenge, celebrating the creative and technical magic of storytelling on screen.
  • Experience the complete journey of film-making — from ideation and scripting to shooting and editing — all within an intense 50-hour window.

Date of the Event

  • Date: 12th-13th November 2024 (Showcasing on 14th November)
  • Time: 50 Hours
  • Venue: Entire Campus
  • Support Venue: LT 101/102 (for charging equipment and editing)

Registration Process

  1. Teams must register on the official Saturnalia registration platform before the deadline.
  2. Participation open to college students with valid ID cards for the current academic year.
  3. Participation subject to shortlisting in case of overwhelming response (details shared if necessary).
  4. After shortlisting (if applicable), only selected teams notified and must:
    • Submit final team list and Team Leader’s contact details, along with college name to the designated POC.
    • Fill out necessary forms and complete payment (for non-Thapar participants).
    • On-the-spot registration by the team is mandatory on the event day to confirm participation and receive the filmmaking brief.

Registration fee: ₹2000 per team

Rules and Regulations

Who is eligible?

  1. Currently registered students of a college are allowed to participate.
  2. Cross-college teams are not allowed.
  3. Teams of 3-8 members allowed.

Performance Guidelines

  • Competition runs continuously for 50 hours; teams must write, shoot, and edit their films.
  • Final short film must be 5 - 8 minutes long.
  • Film’s concept and storyline must strictly align with the given theme.
  • No copyrighted content allowed.
  • No college name, logo, or reference (verbal, visual, textual, or otherwise) in the video.
  • All activities and interactions must remain respectful and appropriate for a public setting.
  • Derogatory language, offensive themes, or disrespect towards any individual, group, religion, or culture is prohibited.
  • Films should maintain high production quality (clear visuals and sound).
  • Teams are responsible for their own filming equipment, props, and costumes.
  • Submissions must meet the deadline; late entries not considered.
  • All members involved in the film must be credited in the final submission.
  • Films must comply with legal and ethical standards (no plagiarism or harmful depictions of alcoholism or drug abuse).
  • Any disputes will be resolved at the discretion of the event organizers; their decision is final.
  • Prizes subject to adequate participation; committee may modify/withdraw prizes if participation is low.

  • By entering this competition, you agree to be bound by the rules mentioned above.
  • The results given by the judges will be final and only the Thapar Institute Of Engineering and Technology reserves the right to make changes to the result if needed, under extreme circumstances, and disqualify any entry at any time in the event, it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these rules or has acted in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
  • TIET reserves the right to disqualify any team promoting obscenity through their act.
  • TIET reserves the right to cancel the competition in case of unforeseen circumstances.
  • TIET reserves the right to change the prize money before the commencement of the final round.
  • In the case of any dispute, the organizer’s decision will be final and binding.
  • The organizers are not responsible for the non-completion / non-occurrence of the event.
  • The organizers have all the right to cancel, reschedule, postpone, and amend the show.
  • Any equipment provided by TIET or any of its associates must not be damaged in any way. If damaged, must be compensated for by the liable participant/team.
  • In any dispute, the organizer’s decisions are final and binding on the applicant.
  • The number of entries determine the deadlines.
  • Property brought by the participant is their own responsibility and not TIET or any of its associate's liability under any circumstances.
  • The decisions of the Jury/Judges are final.
