Readathon - Saturnalia’25

Event Description

  • Celebration of literature aiming to rekindle the joy and love of reading.
  • Participants engage in a “marathon” of reading, selecting from a diverse collection of books available at the library.
  • Opportunity for avid readers to indulge and for occasional readers to discover the wonder of books.
  • Individual event; teams are not allowed.
  • Number of participants expected: ~250-400.
  • Event runs continuously for 24 hours, divided into 6 slots of 4 hours each.
  • Judges will select 5 winners based on responses.

Date of the Event

  • Date: 13/11/2025
  • Timings: 8:00 AM (Day 1) – 8:00 AM (Day 2)
  • Duration: 24 Hours
  • Venue: Central Library

Registration Process

  1. Register on the official Saturnalia Registration Platform before the deadline (or via Google form circulated among students).
  2. If response exceeds expectations, a shortlisting process will be carried out (details shared if required).
  3. After shortlisting (if applicable), only selected participants will be notified and must:
    • Mail contact details and required inventory to the given POCs.
    • Fill out required forms and make necessary payments (for non-Thapar students).
    • Complete on-the-spot registration for slot allocation.
    • Open to college students with valid ID cards for the current academic year.

Registration Fee: ₹500 per participant.

Rules and Regulations

Who is eligible?

  1. Individual participation only.
  2. Only students from participating colleges are eligible.
  3. Participants may choose any books to read during the Readathon. The ground floor of the library is available for reading (excluding GD rooms).

Performance Guidelines

  • Maintain decorum of the library throughout the 24 hours.
  • Readers cannot leave the library building during the night except for designated break periods.
  • Breaks: After every 2 hours, 20-30 minutes for refreshments (waterfront area only).
  • Participants are not allowed to reveal/advertise their college; doing so will lead to disqualification.
  • Any person to complete 100 pages of a book or an entire book will be awarded a certificate of participation.
  • Fastest readers (judged on pages per hour) will receive prizes.

Judging Criteria

  • Winners decided based on:
    • Total time spent reading
    • Number of pages read
    • Ability to sufficiently express what was read

Results

  • A panel of judges will declare the results soon after the competition ends.
  • Results finalized 10 days after the event.

Awards and Prizes

  • Judged on the basis of questionnaire responses.
  • Top five participants: special prizes + certificates of merit.
  • Positions 6-10: standalone books + certificates of position.
  • Top ten: posters + certificates of position.
  • All: stickers, bookmarks, additional goodies during the event.
  • All who complete 100 pages or a book: certificate of participation.
  • Prize Pool : Certificates and Goodies worth 10K

Terms and Conditions

  • By entering this competition, you agree to be bound by the rules mentioned above.
  • The results given by the judges will be final and only the Thapar Institute Of Engineering and Technology reserves the right to make changes to the result if needed, under extreme circumstances, and disqualify any entry at any time in the event, it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these rules or has acted in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
  • TIET reserves the right to disqualify any team promoting obscenity through their act.
  • TIET reserves the right to cancel the competition in case of unforeseen circumstances.
  • TIET reserves the right to change the prize money before the commencement of the final round.
  • In the case of any dispute, the organizer’s decision will be final and binding.
  • The organizers are not responsible for the non-completion / non-occurrence of the event.
  • The organizers have all the right to cancel, reschedule, postpone, and amend the show.
  • Any equipment provided by TIET or any of its associates must not be damaged in any way. If damaged, must be compensated for by the liable participant/team.
  • In any dispute, the organizer’s decisions are final and binding on the applicant.
  • The number of entries determine the deadlines.
  • Property brought by the participant is their own responsibility and not TIET or any of its associate’s liability under any circumstances.
  • The decisions of the Jury/Judges are final.
